They may not be using Kate Middleton’s nanny Maria Borrallo despite an attempt to reportedly poach her for their own baby, but Meghan Markle and Prince Harry could still be paying a large sum of money when it comes to the person who will watch after their child.

According to Express UK, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are reportedly planning to recruit a royal Nanny, and they are likely to choose what is known as a Norland Nanny, meaning their baby’s caregiver would come from the same prestigious school that Borallo came from.

If the couple chooses a Norland nanny however, the cost won’t be cheap, as nannies educated at the school are often paid more than others in the profession. While the school’s website states that salary ranges depend on each Nanny’s experience, work history and the number of hours required by the family, Express notes that the amount of money could still be a high amount.

According to Express, a nanny with 5 or more years of experience working in either London or the South East would earn up to £44,000 a year as a residential nanny—by contrast, the 2017 average for other similar nannies who did not attend the institution made only £20,504 a year. A nanny with less than five years' experience could make between £26,000-£39,000 a year.

The college did not say if the Duke and Duchess have approached them about hiring their nanny.

The news of the cost of a caretaker from the institution comes after reports that Markle tried to poach Borallo from her sister-in-law by offering to allegedly double her salary.

“Meghan’s determined to hire the best nanny that money can buy and has seen with her own eyes how well-mannered Kate’s kids are thanks to Maria’s expertise,” a source told In Touch Magazine at the time.

However, Borallo reportedly turned her down because she didn’t want to leave her position nannying Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis.

“Maria’s loyalties lie with Kate, and she wouldn’t be tempted by any amount of money to dump her,” the source added.
