Meghan Markle, Prince Harry ‘Rely’ On Certain Organizations For Exposure, Royal Expert Says
KEY POINTS
- Prince Harry and Meghan Markle do not have a social media account at present
- The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are likely to return to social media soon
- The Sussexes will not delete their old Instagram account but will leave it inactive
Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have to rely on certain organizations for public exposure, and they also have to update their followers on their whereabouts because at present, the royals don't have their own social media account.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex decided to step back from their royal roles in January. Following their decision, the Queen decided to forbid them from using the Sussex Royal brand.
Prince Harry and Markle have stopped using the Sussex Royal Instagram account that has a massive 11 million following. Since they no longer have their own social media presence, the two are reportedly relying on different organizations to feature them.
”Their platforms are now inactive or dormant so they're having to rely on organisations like Homeboy to put the photographs up and alert us to the work they're actually doing,” Lizzie Robinson said in the Royal Rota podcast as quoted by Express.
Royal correspondent Chris Ship confirmed that the two royals don’t have social media account. According to him, the royal couple might have found it “frustrating” to be not in control. He believes that eventually, the two will return on social media.
“I'm sure work is going on about setting up their own social media platforms, but, at the moment, they are without,” Ship added.
“They are without, so the only way we can hear from them or see them is if people do it on their behalf,” Robinson agreed.
“So, like when they did their Save the Children reading for Archie's birthday, that went on the Save the Children site. They've done the volunteering now, and that's gone up on Homeboys and Homegirls social media.”
Royal expert Myka Meier is also convinced that Prince Harry and Markle will eventually establish their own social media presence after their royal exit. In fact, an insider told her it’s already in the works.
“I think Meghan is going to have another Instagram,” Meier said in the "Royally Obsessed" podcast. “I think she’s going to do a Goop, like a new version of The Tig … I really think that’s coming. I have a friend with a little bit of insider knowledge, and I think she’s already working on something.”
Meanwhile, another royal expert named Laney Lui said that the royal couple will not deactivate or delete their old Instagram account. Instead, they will just leave it inactive.
