Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have sealed a multi-year deal Netflix that rumors claim may be worth $150 million, but Hollywood insiders are deeply skeptical about the Sussexes actually getting that amount

A top talent agent told Page Six that he would be surprised if the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will get more than $2 million a year from the Netflix deal. Other insiders the outlet spoke to shared the same opinion, pointing out that Markle and Prince Harry “are going to be producers, not content creators.”

It is worth noting that content creator Shonda Rhimes, who made the highly successful medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy,” inked a reported $150 million deal with Netflix. Kenya Barris, who created “Black-ish,” also scored a deal with the streaming platform said to be worth $100 million.

“Hollywood is all about ‘comps,’” an unnamed producer who has received an Oscar nod said, referring to comparable salaries. “If I was their agent, I would’ve asked Netflix to give me the Obama money.”

Though the money involved seems to be up for debate, Prince Harry and Markle, who officially resigned from the royal family in April and have since relocated to the United States, did kick off their Hollywood careers by starting a yet-to-be-named production company and signing the Netflix deal, The New York Times reported.

Although most of the details remain under wraps, the deal will see Markle and Prince Harry making movies, shows, children’s programs, docu-series and documentaries, in which they may make appearances. Despite the projects, the duchess, whose last acting stint was in the USA legal drama “Suits,” will not be coming back to act.

“Our focus will be on creating content that informs but also gives hope. As new parents, making inspirational family programming is also important to us,” the Sussexes said.

The couple was courted by other entertainment startups prior to Markle and Prince Harry signing with Netflix, another report said. Quibi’s Meg Whitman and Jeffrey Katzenberg paid the pair a visit and attempted to convince them to hop on board the struggling company.

“Meg and Jeff actually went to see Harry and Meghan to get them to sign … but it’s no surprise they went for Netflix,” a tipster said.

The source also claimed that Markle and Prince Harry have been in talks and receiving pitches since they resettled in Los Angeles.
