Meghan Markle has finally addressed the untrue and offensive baby shower issues involving her mom Doria Ragland.

The Duchess of Sussex faced severe backlash due to her lavish baby shower in New York. According to previous reports, the luxurious celebration before Archie was delivered cost over $300,000. Markle spent it with her celebrity friends including Serena Williams, Amal Clooney, Jessica Mulroney and Gayle King.

There were claims that Markle snubbed her mother for the celebration since Ragland was not seen at the event. Markle addressed the claim in a court document.

“The suggestion that the Claimant (Meghan) deliberately left out her mother from her baby shower and ditched her in favour of her famous friends is untrue and offensive to her,” Markle’s lawyer said.

“The Claimant’s mother was of course invited, and the Claimant also offered to buy her airline tickets. However, her mother was unable to attend due to work commitments. It was also untrue and offensive to suggest, as the article does, that ‘not a single guest had known (the Claimant) for more than a decade.’”

The paper also addressed the claims that Markle’s guests were people she only knew for less than a decade. It also gave a concrete idea of the budget spent for the joyous celebration.

“In fact, the true position was that the baby shower (which actually cost a tiny fraction of the $300k falsely stated in the article) was organised and hosted by one of her best friends from university; the fifteen guests who attended the shower were close friends and included long-term friendships some of which had existed for over 20 years,” the document continued.

Many deemed Markle’s baby shower too lavish for a royal. According to Paul Burrell, it was difficult to determine whether the event was private or public. The palace said that it was privately funded by the duchess’ friends Williams and Clooney.

The royal commentator described Markle’s baby shower as “showbiz style” and added that royals don’t do it that way. However, an insider told Us Weekly that the duchess didn’t regret the baby shower in New York despite the backlash.
