Liam Hemsworth did not expect to know about his separation from ex-wife Miley Cyrus through social media.

According to Page Six, the 29-year-old actor found out about his separation from the “Wrecking Ball” hitmaker through social media and was completely “blindsided” by the announcement.

A source told the news outlet that the “Hunger Games” actor was in Australia at the time when the statement about their split was publicized.

A statement was released by Cyrus’ team on Aug. 10, saying that the 26-year-old songstress and Hemsworth have agreed to separate. Their decision to break up was made, so that they could focus on themselves personally and professionally.

Hemsworth decided to stay quiet after the split and finally addressed the matter three days after the statement was released. The actor took to Instagram and shared that he wants nothing but happiness for Cyrus and requested all the media outlets to not question him about the separation since he doesn’t want to make any comments on the matter.

Meanwhile, just hours after the announcement, photos of Cyrus making out with Kaitlynn Carter surfaced online and went viral. The fans were really shocked to see her kissing Brody Jenner’s ex-wife and accused her of cheating.

A source told US Weekly that Hemsworth wanted to work things out, but the pictures of Cyrus kissing her rumored girlfriend just ended all the possibilities.

Cyrus denied all the claims of her cheating on Hemsworth, and she refused to admit that her marriage ended because of it. She also made it clear that she’d always love Liam.

Meanwhile, Cyrus has been spotted with Carter on multiple occasions in public, but she hasn’t commented about their sightings together.

But a source told The Sun that Hemsworth’s family wants him to cut Cyrus off and don’t want them to get back together again. The source also shared that everyone in his family is worried that he will get sucked back into the relationship and will get his heart broken once again.

Hemsworth and Cyrus met on the set of their movie “The Last Song” in 2009. At that time, Liam was new to the industry while Cyrus was a household name thanks to her Disney show “Hannah Montana.”

The couple was in an on-again, off-again relationship for nearly 10 years when they decided to “wed in a secret ceremony” at Cyrus’ house in Tennessee, six years after their first engagement.
