‘Mindy Project’ Season 3 Spoilers: Shonda Rhimes To Guest Star; How Will Dr. Lahiri React To The ‘Scandal’ Creator? [THEORIES]
“The Mindy Project” Season 3 will have Mindy Lahiri meet Shonda Rhimes, and it’s probably going to be a dream come true for Mindy. Rhimes, the creator of “Grey’s Anatomy” and “Scandal,” will be playing herself in the episode, which will shoot in September and air later in the fall, according to TV Line. Details about Rhimes' appearance are being kept secret, but fans can probably expect Mindy to fangirl all over her.
Dr. Lahiri is obsessed with pop culture, and while a casual fan might not recognize the TV veteran, Mindy probably will. She basically lives off of pop culture. The OB/GYN grew up watching romantic comedies like “Sleepless in Seattle” and “When Harry Met Sally,” and continues to obsess about them 20 years later. She loves drama and romance, so it’s fair to say that Mindy definitely follows Meredith Grey and Olivia Pope’s lives. She was definitely trying to channel Olivia Pope’s fashion sense with her stylish jackets in “The Mindy Project” Season 2.
Mindy’s first question will probably be about Rhimes’ characters’ love lives. We don’t know if Rhimes will just do a cameo or if she’ll appear in various scenes from the episode. If it’s just a quick cameo, the doctor could embarrass herself by chasing Rhimes down the street for a selfie. However, if it’s more than a quick run in, she could be a patient of Dr. Lahiri’s. Mindy is definitely inappropriate enough to ask Rhimes about Meredith and Derek’s future while she’s giving the writer a pap smear.
While it seems likely that Mindy Lahiri could offend the fictional Rhimes, the real life Rhimes loves Mindy Kaling’s show. After “The Mindy Project” Season 2 finale, Rhimes sent out this tweet:
“The Mindy Project” returns to Fox on Tuesday, Sept. 16 at 9:30 p.m. EDT. What do you think Mindy will do when she meets Shonda Rhimes? Is there a possibility she could keep herself composed? Sound off in the comments section below!
