‘Mission: Impossible 5’ Releases First Teaser Trailer; Reveals ‘Rogue Nation’ Title And New Villain
The first teaser trailer for the fifth “Mission: Impossible” movie debuted on Sunday. The action-packed trailer revealed the film’s full title as “Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation.”
The newly-released commercial shows Ethan Hunt (Tom Cruise) in trouble once again when a mysterious woman (Rebecca Ferguson) helps him escape. Ethan rounds up his crew, including Benji (Simon Pegg), William (Jeremy Renner) and Luther (Ving Rhames), to fight a dark force called the Syndicate.
“The Syndicate is real,” Ethan tells Benji. “A rogue nation trained to do what we do.”
It’s an anti-Impossible Mission Force, according to Benji, and they won’t be easy to take down. Ferguson’s character even claims it’s...impossible.
Of course, nothing is impossible for Ethan Hunt, not even those stunts. The trailer is filled with fight scenes, car crashes and even a scene in which Ethan is out on the wing of an airplane—a stunt that Cruise did himself.
"That's me the whole time. I was standing right over the tires when we landed," Cruise told USA Today. "It's nerve-racking for everyone else, but pretty exciting for me."

Notably absent were actresses Maggie Q and Paula Patton. They played the female leads in “Mission: Impossible III” and “Mission: Impossible - Ghost Protocol,” respectively. As previously reported, director Christopher McQuarrie revealed that both were unavailable to return for the fifth installment of the franchise. Ferguson’s still unnamed character will take over the leading female role, but Ferguson isn’t the only newcomer to the "Mission: Impossible" franchise. Alec Baldwin is seen in the trailer, and he'll portray the head of the CIA, according to Variety.
This trailer was just the beginning of sneak peeks at the new action movie. The worldwide trailer will debut Monday and will include even more new footage.
“Mission: Impossible - Rogue Nation” hits theaters July 31.
