‘The Mist’ Season 1, Episode 8 Synopsis Released; What Will Happen Next?

People at the church continue to look up to Nathalie in Season 1, episode 8 of “The Mist.”

According to the synopsis for the episode, Nathalie’s (Frances Conroy) influence over the remaining church parishioners continues to grow after the mist mysteriously spared her life. In Season 1, episode 7 — after Connor (Darren Pettie) beat Father Romanov (Dan Butler) for letting Link (Dylan Authors) assault Nathalie at the church tower — the priest challenged Nathalie to a trial by ordeal to find out who between them is the rightful one to lead the people at the church.

Connor tried to stop Nathalie from accepting Romanov’s challenge, but she had already made up her mind. Before walking into the mist, Romanov said a little prayer while Nathalie took all her clothes off to be as close to nature as she could be. Unfortunately for Romanov, his prayer didn’t help, because as soon as he and Nathalie dove into the mist, the four horsemen of the apocalypse arrived and took his life. Nathalie, on the other hand, survived, and when she returned to the church, she declared that nature knows that she is its messenger.

In the behind-the-scenes featurette for episode 7, showrunner Christian Torpe said that the moment Nathalie came back from the mist unharmed is the moment where everyone at the church started to realize that she could be their messiah.

“She knows something that they don’t know. She knows what’s going on,” Torpe said of Conroy’s character. “They can sort of trust her to guide them to salvation and that gives her a lot of power.”

As to why the church parishioners almost instantly saw Nathalie as their new savior, Pettie said: “People are terrified and afraid. They don’t know what to do. Then someone shows up with an answer. I think it’s easy for people to lose sight of their own rationality because they’re just so desperate to have someone take away the fear.”

Elsewhere in episode 8, Kevin (Morgan Spector), Mia (Danica Curcic), Jonah (Okezie Morro) and Adrian (Russell Posner) stop by Adrian's home, where Kevin makes a shocking discovery. Meanwhile, at the mall, Alex (Gus Birney) and Jay (Luke Cosegrove) grow closer until Eve (Alyssa Sutherland) intervenes.

“The Mist” Season 1, episode 8, titled “The Law of Nature,” airs on Thursday, Aug. 10 at 10 p.m. EDT on Spike.
