Mom Throttles Toddler Son To Death During Drunken Spat With Father-In-Law

A woman in India has been arrested after she killed her toddler son during a drunken fight with her father-in-law.

The accused, identified as 22-year-old Parameshwari, got into a heated argument with Venkataiah after he questioned her drinking habit and accused her of not looking after the 2-year-old boy. Infuriated by this, the woman, who was under the influence of alcohol, took the toddler to the bedroom and throttled him using her hands. The incident took place at their home in the southern state of Telangana on Wednesday.

"Her father-in-law questioned her about her drinking habit and neglecting the child and her responsibilities. Infuriated, she picked up the child, took him into a room, and throttled him to death with her own hands," a police officer told local media outlet Telangana Today.

Venkataiah rushed into the room and found the toddler lying motionless. He then took the boy to the hospital where the child was pronounced dead on arrival. The woman's husband was not at home when the incident took place.

The accused was taken into custody the same day after a police complaint was registered by the family. Police said she has been booked under murder charges and is being interrogated.

The toddler's body has been shifted to a hospital for an autopsy.

In a similar incident last year, a man in the southern Indian state of Karnataka killed his two toddler daughters following an argument with his wife. The two got into a disagreement over the man's unemployment. The woman left for work after that and when she returned in the evening, she found the toddlers lying motionless on the bed. Police arrived at the scene and pronounced them dead. The accused, who had locked himself up in another room, was detained and during interrogation, he confessed to smothering the children to death with a pillow.

In another incident, a man in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu killed his 3-year-old daughter and attempted to strangle his 6-year-old son following a heated argument with his wife over financial issues.
