A 60-year-old woman stabbed her aggressive son-in-law to death after he began assaulting his wife for having an affair.

The inquest finding by a coroner's court in Australia on Wednesday said Adam Coble, 40, was murdered by his mother-in-law Kay Leonard, 60, following a violent fight between him and his wife Robyn Coble at their residence on Jan. 14, 2019, Perth Now reported.

The day before the murder happened, Robyn had come home in an inebriated state. She was helped to bed by Adam who also checked her phone and found sexually explicit messages between his wife and her taekwondo trainer.

When Adam confronted Robyn about the affair, she didn't respond. He continued with the tirade the next day when he removed his wedding ring and cut it with pliers declaring: "That's what you did to my heart."

While the argument continued, Robyn called her mother who went to their home and asked Adam to move out if they couldn't stop fighting.

An enraged Adam went to the kitchen and got a knife. He then grabbed his mother-in-law, pushed her face onto the ground, before stabbing her neck. A written statement by the 60-year-old woman said her daughter yelled "You're killing my mother" when the man continued stabbing her.

However, Robyn managed to restrain her husband and placed him in a headlock, while Leonard shouted to her not to let go "or we would all be dead." She then grabbed the knife from the man's hand and plunged it into his chest.

Amid the melee, the couple's teenage daughter called the cops and said, “My dad is killing my mum’s mum,” 7News reported. Leonard had suffered eight stab wounds before she drove the knife into Adam’s chest.

Detectives soon arrived at the home and pronounced him dead at the scene.

During an inquest hearing Monday, the court was told the couple was known to the police for the past 11 years for domestic violence. A month before the stabbing, Adam was charged with malicious damage and had an apprehended violence order against him.

Though Adam's family had alleged the murder was pre-meditated, the inquest found no evidence of the accusation. The wounds sustained by Leonard and Robyn, including the cuts to the former's forearm and hands, were found consistent with their version of events.

"This episode of interpersonal violence... was spontaneous in nature, having escalated from a verbal argument between Adam and Robyn," coroner Derek Lee said.
