A woman in Australia went to the hospital with severe abdominal pains and returned home with an unexpected newborn baby. Emma Fitzsimmons, from New South Wales, said she nearly did not believe her doctors when they said she was 36 weeks pregnant.

The surprising turn of events began when Fitzsimmons was at home with her partner, Aaron Barsley, and her two-year-old son William on May 17. She began having “really bad pains” in the stomach and had no idea what was causing it, according to Yahoo News Australia.

“I went into the kitchen and he [Aaron] heard me make noises and he’s come out and said, ‘look we need to go to the hospital, we need to go see what’s going on,’” the 25-year-old said on Channel Seven's Sunrise program.

The couple went to the Port Macquarie Hospital, where a scan revealed she was pregnant.

“They did the abdominal scan and saw the spine and that’s when I asked them to have a look again because I didn’t believe it,” she said on the show. “I just said to her ‘I can’t have a baby, we don’t have enough room!”

Fitzsimmons said she and Barsley are currently living in a caravan, according to news.com.au. But the mother was reassured in the hospital that the only thing she needed to worry about at that moment was the safe birth of her baby.

Doctors wasted no time as they found the baby’s heart rate dropping. They rushed Fitzsimmons for an emergency C-section and delivered the surprise baby.

The couple named her Willow Rose.

Fitzsimmons admitted that the pregnancy was starkly different from her previous pregnancy and that she had been wearing the same clothes all the while.

“I didn’t notice that I had put on any weight really, I was still wearing the same clothes and they still fit me the same, so yeah I didn’t feel anything at all,” she went on to say, according to 7NEWS Australia. “With William, I found out about him at 11 weeks and I was sick all day everyday until 22 weeks, so it was completely different.

“They said that the reason I might not have felt her was because she could have been sitting all the way at the back and the placenta was at the front preventing any movement,” the mother added.

The couple is now looking to move to a bigger place to make room for their newest addition to the family.
