Naked Oregon Robbery Suspect Spends More Than 12 Hours On Traffic Pole, Attacks K9 During Arrest
A robbery suspect in Oregon climbed on a traffic pole naked and spent more than 12 hours there before police took him into custody. He also attempted to escape arrest by attacking a police dog.
According to a statement from the Eugene Police Department, 39-year-old Brandon Lee Jackson spent Monday (June 15) night naked on a railroad crossing sign at the 200 block of Washington Street.
Around 9:30 p.m., the Eugene police responded to the scene after receiving calls reporting about a nude man exposing himself to bystanders. According to reports, Jackson threw objects at the bystanders and injured a man in the head with a rock.
The responding officers found Jackson on the traffic pole. After trying for more than 12 hours, the police were finally able to take Jackson into custody by Tuesday morning. “The call went more than 12 hours total, with officers working on solutions,” an official statement from the Eugene police said.
While being taken into custody, Jackson attacked a police dog, Cwyk. He headlocked the K9 and punched him several times.
Jackson was arrested and was charged with assault in the second degree, reckless endangering, criminal trespass in the first degree, criminal mischief in the first degree (vandalism), public indecency and disorderly conduct in the second degree.
He was also charged with robbery in the first degree (highway) and assault in the second degree in connection with a June 15 incident.
“At approximately 3:17 a.m., in the 7-Eleven parking lot on the 500 block of W. 7th Avenue, police received information that the described suspect, Jackson, struck a 61-year-old male victim with a metal object, stole his property, and left the area,” the statement read.
Jackson has a history of criminal activity. In connection with a June 14 incident at a Walmart store on W 11th Avenue, Jackson was charged with theft in the second degree. “Jackson was contacted by an employee outside the garden center regarding shoplifting,” the police said.
He was also charged with theft in the second degree (from vehicle), and criminal mischief in the second degree (resulting in a criminal act) for a March 13 incident on Mill Street when according to the police, “the rear window of Honda was broken and an instrument was stolen from the vehicle.”
