The Ventura County Sheriff’s Office has urged people to not come to Lake Piru and search for the body of missing actress Naya Rivera on their own. The statement comes after a lot of netizens offered to help the law enforcement authorities in their search and recovery mission.
Taking it to Twitter, the sheriff's office asked people to stay away from Lake Piru as the authorities continue the recovery mission for Rivera, who has been presumed dead after going missing in Lake Piru on July 8. The agency stated that the terrain near the lake is “very steep” and “rugged” and the temperature there is already in the 90s.
“For those intent on searching for Naya Rivera on your own, 1. The lake is closed. 2. Temps are already in the 90s. 3. The terrain around the lake is very steep and rugged,” the agency tweeted.
The agency further stated that its teams are “well equipped” and “highly trained” for such missions, so they are continuing their work with precision. The authorities concluded by saying that people should not go there since they “don’t want to have to rescue” other people while searching for the “Glee” actress’ body.
“Our teams are well equipped and highly trained. We don’t want to have to rescue you,” the agency wrote on Twitter.
Recently, “Glee” star Heather Morris, who played Rivera’s love interest on the hit TV show, asked the authorities to let her help them in their search for the 33-year-old actress.
Morris wrote on Twitter that she and a small group of friends are trying to start an “on foot” search and rescue mission at Lake Piru. Morris also shared that she has written a “message” to the Department of Rescue and Air, asking for permission to carry out their plan.
“My name is Heather Morris, I'm Naya's close friend and co-worker, and I'm trying to conduct an on-foot search and rescue mission along with a small group of friends at Lake Piru. I understand your team is doing EVERYTHING in their power, but we are feeling helpless, powerless, and want to help in any way. I have left a message with the Department of Rescue and Air today, and I will call again tomorrow. Thank you,” Morris wrote on the micro-blogging website.
On July 8, Rivera was reported missing after taking a boat ride with her 4-year-old son, Josey Hollis Dorsey, in Lake Piru in Ventura County, California. The star was “presumed dead” after the child was found alone on the boat.
