NBA: John Wall Honest About Recovery Status, Discloses Wizards' Plan For Him
One of NBA’s elite guards John Wall is trying to be honest with how his recovery has been going lately.
The Wizards stars have been involved in trade rumors this offseason including Wall. But regardless of what team Wall will be playing for, one things is sure, Wall is currently recovering from an Achilles injury.
Despite all the rumors about being sent to Miami Heat alongside Bradley Beal, Wall managed to remain steady and chose not to focus on the issue. In fact, the Wizards star just had a successful annual backpack giveaway event in Maryland.
During the event, reporters took advantage of the situation and asked the NBA All Star about the status of his recovery, Sporting News reported.
Wall was very vocal about not being willing to “sit out” the whole 2019-20 NBA season.
"No I'm not willing to," Wall said.
However, Wall disclosed that to sit him out is what the doctors advise. More importantly, even his team suggests that he doesn’t rush things coming into next season.
"But that's what the doctors say, that's what the team says. So I'm fine listening to them (the team) and not trying to do my own thing," Wall revealed.
The five-time All Star also revealed that he is not really sure about his progress at this point, but his body feels great.
"Me right now, I don't know. I don't know where I'm at. I feel great. I've been jogging the last couple days, I've been on the court doing basketball workouts, I'm doing weightlifting every day. So I don't know where I'm at. I don't want to lie to you guys.I always try to be honest with y'all. So I don't know exactly where I'm at, but I know I'm making progress and I'm headed where I'm supposed to be. But I'm not rushing myself back," Wall explained.
Wall averaged 20.7 points and 8.7 assists per game in 32 games last season. While he was once known as the fastest player in the league, his pace has slowed significantly in recent years. But evidently, he's working to get back into top shape.
The Wizards struggled without Wall and missed the playoffs in 2018-19, posting a 32-50 record. But in his absence Bradley Beal blossomed and put together a career year. Beal averaged career highs in points (25.6), rebounds (5.0) and assists per game (5.5). Washington has offered the 26-year-old guard a three-year, $111 million max extension, but he hasn't accepted yet and garnered trade interest from multiple teams.
