NBC's 'Manifest' Season 1 Recap: Refresher Before Season 2 Premiere
A new year means a new season of NBC's "Manifest." It's been almost a year since Season 1 ended though, so here's a refresher on what happened in the finale and some important moments to remember before the Season 2 premiere.
They have callings: One of the first things revealed about the passengers of Flight 828 is that they have callings. This emerges as a voice in their head (either their own or someone else's) that urges them to do something. Like when Michaela (Melissa Roxburgh) heard the phrase "Set them free." At first, she thinks it's about freeing some dogs but when that doesn't stop the calling she investigates further to finds and rescues a group of kidnapped girls.
It should also be noted that the callings, so far, have all been to prevent something bad from happening. However, the character's interpretation of the calling could be misunderstood and lead to some less than favorable circumstances. For example, when Michaela heard the phrase "Save him," and ruined an undercover operation.
The government is experimenting on the passengers: Ben (Josh Dallas) has a calling of the flight emergency lights which leads to saving fellow survivors who are being held and tested on by shady Unified Dynamic Systems. Not everyone made it safely out, though, and now Ben and the gang are on the hunt for someone referred to as The Major.
(Side note: Cal [Jack Messina] is somehow linked to Marko [Nikolai Tsankov], who is being tested on, and can feel and see what he's going through).
This has happened to others: Michaela experiences a calling but unlike the ones she's had previously, they are in someone else's voice. It leads to Michaela and Ben finding Zeke (Matt Long) who, to their shock, has also jumped forward in time.
The passengers' have an expiration date: At the end of the season, they discover that the amount of time that someone has been missing is the amount of time that they have left when they return. For the Stone's, this means they have until June 2, 2024, to figure things out.
And, let's not forget, that Season 1 cliffhanger -- Who got shot? After an almost season-long love triangle (if you could even call it that) Michaela's ex, Jared (J.R. Ramirez) and Zeke end up in a brawl. Michaela reaches them just as a shot is fired off-screen.
NBC's "Manifest" Season 2 premieres Monday, Jan. 6, at 10 p.m. EST. Watch the trailer for Season 2 here.
