‘New Girl’ Season 6 Spoilers: Schmidt’s Disappointing Name Is Finally Revealed In Episode 21

“New Girl” Season 6, episode 21 finally revealed Schmidt’s (Max Greenfield) first name, and it just might have disappointed a lot of viewers.

In “San Diego,” fans learned that Schmidt’s first name is Winston. One of their closest friends is also named Winston (Lamorne Morris). Following the reveal, “New Girl” heads Brett Baer and Dave Finkel shared some information to TV Line about the name and why they decided to hold it off until the second to the last episode of Season 6.

According to Finkel, they wanted to wait for a moment where it would feel right revealing it. As such, they didn’t think unveiling his first name on his wedding day was the best thing to do. “And we still don’t know if there will be Season 7, so it’s one of those things where if we’re going to do it, we better do it now,” he said.

Meanwhile, Baer shared that they also kept Schmidt’s first name from Greenfield and Morris. “I have to say, the table read that we had for this episode was one of the best table reads we’ve ever had because everyone was learning about it at the same time. I could tell by the response they were having while reading the script that they seemed to dig it,” Baer said.

In other news, “New Girl” Season 6 still has one more episode left, but the show’s fate for Season 7 remains to be unknown. There are speculations that Jess (Zooey Deschanel) and Nick (Jake Johnson) will get back together now that the latter and Reagan (Megan Fox) have broken up. According to Finkel, there are still more stories to tell, and there could also be a 10-year time jump next season.
