New York Terror Suspect Pimentel's Mother Apologizes, Says, 'I Love Him'
The mother of an alleged al-Qaeda sympathizer, Jose Pimentel, who was planning an attack to kill United States military officials returning from Iraq and Afghanistan, expressed her apologies and was shocked and saddened about her son's arrest.
I would like to apologize about this, I mean I didn't raise my son that way. I feel very bad about this, Sosa said, according to NY1.com. I always loved New York the way it is. I also want to say thank you to the police. I think they handled it well.
Pimentel,27, was arrested on Sunday evening in Harlem one hour before his homemade bomb was said to be functioning. Sosa spoke through her tears Monday morning when asked what she would say to her son.
I don't know what's going on. I just want peace, she said, according to Fox Five. I just want to say I love him. I didn't raise him that way. He changed.
Pimentel was also planning to bomb NYPD facilities, vehicles, and even post offices in Manhattan and Bayonne. He confessed to making the bomb and said he had acted alone.
I don't know what he did in the house, said Sosa according to the Daily News. I know he didn't do it in the kitchen.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg said in a press conference that Pimentel had hoped to change his namehis name to Osama Hussein after Osama bin Laden and Saddam Hussein.
There is no evidence that he worked with anyone else, said the Mayor, according to Fox Five.
