‘Nioh’s’ ‘Defiant Honor’ DLC Release Date Announced; Included Features Detailed

Team Ninja’s creative director, Tom Lee, has announced via Sony’s PlayStation Blog the release date for the second downloadable content of the developer’s action role-playing video game, “Nioh.” Entitled “Defiant Honor,” the DLC is scheduled to become available for free to Season Pass owners from July 25. For those who do not have the Season Pass, they can simply purchase the new content via the PlayStation Store for just $9.99.

“Defiant Honor” Features

For players who are anticipating the upcoming DLC, they’ll surely be pleased to know that it is packing a lot of new features. Lee said they are still in the process of putting the finishing touches, but fans will really enjoy the fresh new content that’s coming two weeks from now. “I’m really psyched for you guys to jump into this one,” Lee noted after admitting that they appreciate the “tremendous response” from fans that pushed them to keep on working hard and developing new content for “Nioh.”

So what can players expect from the second DLC? First and foremost, fans should be excited to enter the largest and most impregnable castle of Sengoku era, the Osaka Castle. In “Defiant Honor,” they’ll also meet legendary warrior Sanada Yukimura, who is said to value honor above everything else.

Another new feature that will be introduced into the game through “Defiant Honor” is Tonfa. Tonfa is not a character but a deadly weapon, and players will have access to it in the new DLC, along with the new armor, new magic items, guardian spirits and even a new Yokai.

“Defiant Honor” is also reportedly featuring new difficulty levels, Trophies, new stages and new sub-missions. Of course, there will also be new challenges to face, but Team Ninja has not given clues as to what they are as of late.

New DLC Storyline

As mentioned earlier, the second DLC features warrior Sanada Yukimura, who will be revealed later on to be “the greatest warrior of all Japan.” Based on his backstory, Sanada is servingTokugawa Ieyasu’s archenemy, the Toyotomi clan. Amid the clash between the two clans, Sanada has prepared a stronghold called the Sanada Maru to face the Tokugawa forces.

Team Ninja teased that the hero of the game, William, will apparently find his way to Sanada’s Sanada Maru on the outskirts of the castle in search of Maria. The developer also indicated that the DLC is set in the bitter winter in Osaka, which is the perfect setting for fierce and brutal battles between the clans.

News about the second downloadable content for “Nioh” comes more than a month after the first DLC, “The Dragon of the North” was released in May. Once again, “Nioh’s “Defiant Honor” DLC is set for release this July 25. It will be available to buy for $9.99, while those who have the “Nioh” Season Pass can have it for free.
