Noah Cyrus is apologizing after receiving backlash for using a racially insensitive term while defending Harry Styles against Candace Owens.
The Grammy nominee took to Instagram Story Thursday to own up to her mistake after she commented on the Styles-Owens drama surrounding the former One Direction member’s Vogue cover. Cyrus was called out for sharing a photo of the “Watermelon Sugar” hitmaker with the message: “he wears this dress better than any of u nappy a-- heauxz.”
Although her intention was to defend Styles from criticisms over his dress-wearing, her post received flak for her inappropriate use of the word “nappy,” which is a derogatory term with racist connotations.
“I am mortified that I used a term without knowing the context and history, but I know now and I am horrified and truly sorry,” Cyrus wrote.
"I will never use it again. thank you for educating me. I in no way meant to offend anyone. I am so sorry,” she added.
Owens caught wind of Cyrus seemingly attacking her on social media and fired back via Twitter. “Care to explain to me how @noahcyrus calling me a 'nappy a-- hoe' is not racist? I'm all ears. You guys love cancel culture,” she wrote.
Last month, Styles graced Vogue in a Gucci dress, making history as the first man to appear solo on the cover of the iconic fashion magazine in all of its 127-year history. While many fans and celebrities loved it, others were not as happy, including Owens, who took to social media to slam Styles and his Vogue cover.
“There is no society that can survive without strong men. The East knows this. In the west, the steady feminization of our men at the same time that Marxism is being taught to our children is not a coincidence. It is an outright attack. Bring back manly men,” she wrote.
Styles initially remained silent as other celebrities defended him from the remarks of the conservative author. However, he recently clapped back by sharing a photo of himself with the caption, “Bring back manly men.”
