Nokia 2 Specs, Features: FCC Hints At Massive Battery Of Android Handset

HMD Global is gearing up for the launch of a new Android smartphone. Simply called Nokia 2, the handset isn’t going to be a top-tier or premium offering, but it could steal the spotlight from mid-range rivals thanks to its massive battery.

The U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) recently published documents containing details about the Nokia 2. By the looks of it, the mid-range phone is going to house a large 4,000 mAh battery. If the handset does end up with such a generous battery, it would be the first Nokia-branded Android phone to do so.

HMD Global may have had a very good reason behind its decision to secure a humungous battery for the Nokia 2. Given that it’s a mid-range offering, the expectations for its specs and features are not that high. Packing a huge battery would then be the phone’s standout feature.

Phone Arena has also noted that because the components of the Nokia-branded handset won’t be too power-hungry, it’s very likely for the battery to last for up to two days on just a single charge. The Nokia 2 is rumored to be powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 212 chip, and its 5-inch display only comes with a 720 x 1280 screen resolution. Therefore, the device won’t be draining its battery pretty quickly.

Rumors about the launch of the Nokia 2 smartphone started last month when the FCC released some photos and sketches of the device online. At the time, it was believed that HMD Global was preparing to introduce the new product in mid-August, alongside the Nokia 8. However, the company only launched the latter on Aug. 16 without even mentioning anything about the Nokia 2.

The Nokia 2 is expected to be the cheapest smartphone by HMD for this year. Although both Nokia and HMD are mum on the launch date and pricing for the device, several sources are claiming that the Nokia 2 is most likely going to cost less than the Nokia 3, which is sold for only $160 unlocked.

While details about the Nokia 2 remain scarce, all of the attention is currently focused on the newly launched Nokia 8. The premium Android phone features Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 835 processor, 4GB of RAM and 64GB of internal memory. Additional storage is made possible thanks to the microSD card slot that accommodates up to 256GB of external memory. It also comes with a dual-camera module that utilizes Carl Zeiss optics. It supports Quick Charge 3.0 and runs Android 7.1.1 Nougat straight out of the box.

Another interesting thing about the Nokia 8 is it is scheduled to receive the Android Oreo update soon. Geekbench has recently published the scores the handset obtained after subjecting it to single-core and multi-core performance tests. Surprisingly, the Nokia 8 phone Geekbench used was already running Android 8.0.

To be fair though, Nokia 8 isn’t going to be the only Nokia-branded handset that will be receiving Google’s new mobile software update. HMD’s Chief Product Officer Juho Sarvikas has already confirmed that all of HMD’s Android-running Nokia phones are getting a taste of the Android 8.0 Oreo experience, according to GizBot.
