A man in Dayton, Ohio, accused of fatally shooting his ex-girlfriend before their son, was indicted Wednesday (May 20).

According to local reports, police responded to a home in the 3200 block of Hillpoint Lane in Dayton on May 9 after receiving reports of gunshots. The officers found a woman lying in a pool of blood in the driveway of the home. The woman, later identified as 32-year-old Krysten Connally, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses and neighbors were questioned as part of the investigation. They told the officers that they saw the accused, 33-year-old Gregory E. Blanton, and the victim arguing before he shot her. They confirmed that the victim was Blanton’s ex-girlfriend.

The prosecutor’s office confirmed that the accused shot Connally five times in her head in front of their four-year-old son. The accused, who fled the scene following the shooting, surrendered to police later that day.

The man was charged with three counts of murder, two counts of felonious assault and one count of endangering children. He was being held in the Montgomery County Jail on a $1 million bond. Meanwhile, police confirmed that their son was in the care of family members.

The incident comes less than a month after a man was shot in front of his 10-month-old child during a shootout in Harris County, Texas. Deputies responded to the parking lot of an apartment complex after receiving reports of a shooting. They found a man lying in a pool of blood with a gunshot wound. The man was rushed to a nearby hospital with life-threatening injuries. He died at the hospital. Investigation revealed that the man’s infant child, the child’s mother and her brother were at the scene when the shooting took place. The woman’s brother was also injured in the incident. The circumstance that led to the shootout was not known.

"There was some type of exchange of gunfire when the shooting happened. The brother of the biological mother was apparently hit,” officials said.
