Oprah Winfrey has revealed that her longtime partner Stedman Graham has been racially profiled.
On Sunday (May 31), Winfrey spoke with her close pal and “CBS This Morning” co-host Gayle king. During their conversation, the American talk show host and TV producer shared how her partner, Graham, was also a victim of racial profiling.
“A lot of white people don’t understand what they’re seeing … but when you feel invisible and unheard, it sends the message that you don’t matter,” Winfrey said.
“I do not know a Black man period who has not been profiled, including Stedman Graham.”
Winfrey didn’t share the details, but she made the statement in response to King’s confession that her family hasn’t taken a break from the heavy news following George Floyd’s death and the ensuing protests.
“We’ve been up since 4 [a.m.], me, [my daughter] Kirby, and [my son] Will … I literally could not sleep because I’m watching it,” King shared.
“All of us feel so haunted and unsettled by it. I can’t stop thinking about the looting, about George Floyd, the expression on that cop’s face when he had his knee on his neck, and he’s so comfortable … he had his hands in his pocket! That’s the universal sign of ‘I am really chillin’ here.”
King was thankful that there was a video tape to prove what happened during Floyd’s arrest. She also blamed the incident to racism.
Several celebrities have joined the people who are calling for justice for Floyd. In fact, Beyoncé recorded a video of herself urging her followers to sign the petitions seeking justice for George.
“We need justice for George Floyd. We all witnessed his murder in broad daylight. We are broken and we are disgusted. We cannot normalize this pain,” Beyoncé said.
According to the “Halo” singer, while someone has been charged, justice is still still far from being achieved.
Meanwhile, Chrissy Teigen showed her support in another way. John Legend’s wife pledged to donate $200,000 to bail out the protesters who have been arrested.
“In celebration of whatever the [explicit] maga night is, I am committed to donating $100,000 to the bail outs of protestors across the country,” she wrote on Twitter.
“Ooo they might need more money then. Make it $200,000,” she added.
