‘Orange Is The New Black’ Season 5 Promo Teases Emotional But Empowering Episodes Ahead
Netflix just dropped a new teaser for “Orange Is the New Black” Season 5, and it showed the inmates of Litchfield Prison taking a stand.
The two-minute clip opens with Daya (Dascha Polanco) holding a gun and pointing it at one of the police officers working at Litchfield Prison. All the inmates are pissed off because of what happened to their fellow inmate, Poussey (Samira Wiley), at the end of Season 4. In the finale, Poussey was shockingly killed by one of the police officers. In Season 5, Poussey’s friends will seek justice for her demise by coming together and speaking up against the employees and staff of Litchfield.

When one of the inmates tells the head that they want justice for Poussey, the head immediately gets angry and questions their intentions. They continue to ask Mr. Caputo (Nick Sandow) for justice, but the head shuts them off. In the next scene, Alison Abdullah (Amanda Stephen) reads out loud a letter they wrote for the heads of prison. In the letter, the inmates remind the wardens that they are human beings with feelings, so they must be treated with respect.
Even though the wardens will try to silence the inmates, their voices will be heard by the press. One of the scenes shows two inmates smiling in front of the cameras. Their goals have always been to become famous, but this turned out to be impossible after they were convicted and sent to Litchfield Prison. Also in the clip, one of the inmates is very sick, and she is being comforted by a friend. Another scene shows several inmates running in the rain.
Tasha (Danielle Brooks) also points out that four inmates share a bed, and they are stuffed in the cells like factory chickens. At this point, Piper (Taylor Schilling) asks Tasha how she could help. However, the latter said that she thinks people will not like Piper. Despite the bold remark, Piper helps the inmates by recording their protest. It is unclear whether or not she’s the one who will leak the incident to the press.
Meanwhile, “Orange is the New Black” Season 5 will pick up three days following Poussey’s demise. While speaking with The Hollywood Reporter earlier this year, Brooks was asked to describe the upcoming episodes of the hit Netflix series. “It’s war. Taystee has nothing to lose; she’s lost everything that she cared so deeply about. It’s time to fight,” she said.
The actress also said that the 13 episodes of “Orange is the New Black” Season 5 will be an emotional roller coaster ride. “It will be very detailed, very intense, and you better get ready. Get your popcorn, get your tissues,” she said.
Unfortunately, some of the episodes of “Orange is the New Black” Season 5 have already been leaked by a group of hackers before its official premiere on Netflix. Last month, a group called The Dark Overlord urged Netflix to pay ransom, but when the streaming company didn’t, they decided to leak the new episodes of the series. But the official release date for “Orange is the New Black” Season 5 is on June 9.
