Oscars Celebrity Selfies: Top 10 Star Candids From The Academy Awards Ellen DeGeneres Didn’t Take
Never before have celebrities been so accessible. The relatively recent proliferation of celebrity Instagram, Twitter and Facebook accounts has allowed an unprecedented glimpse into the private moments of our favorite stars. The celeb selfie, a portrait snapped and posted by the star herself, lets fans see the candid encounters that take place behind-the-scenes of, let’s say, a major awards show.
In the words of actor, director, writer and self-proclaimed selfie guru James Franco, “We speak of the celebrity selfie, which is its own special thing. It has value regardless of the photo’s quality, because it is ostensibly an intimate shot of someone whom the public is curious about.”
The candid celebrity selfie has, in some sense, replaced the crotch shot as the new intimate celeb Internet meme -- and thank God for that.
Franco’s words of wisdom certainly rang true last night during the 86th annual Academy Awards. No photo better epitomizes the Oscars celebrity selfie better than Academy Awards host Ellen DeGeneres’ star-studded, arms-length candid shot taken from the audience. The photo instantly garnered tons of attention online and quickly became the most retweeted photo of all time. When else in history have so many A-list celebrities -- including Angelina Jolie, Bradley Cooper, Kevin Spacey, Jared Leto, Meryl Streep, Julia Roberts, Lupita Nyong'o and Brad Pitt -- appeared in the same frame?
But DeGeneres wasn’t the only celebrity attending the Academy Awards to share an honest Oscars moment with her fans. Here are 10 other celebrity selfies from Hollywood’s biggest awards night.
Jamie Foxx
Jared Leto
James Franco
Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Emma Watson
Channing Tatum
