UPDATE: 4:05 p.m. EDT -- Sam Heughan and Graham McTavish confirmed Monday afternoon during an Instagram Live that they are hoping to see it distributed in the U.S. “We’re in the process of getting an American publisher,” McTavish said.

Original story: “Outlander” star Sam Heughan is making the jump from screen to page. He and co-star Graham McTavish have officially announced their book “Clanlands,” but fans in the U.S. might not know how to pre-order the Scottish tome.

Heughan and McTavish, who wrote the book based on their experiences while making the Starz travel show “Men in Kilts,” announced Monday that the “Clanlands” book will be released later this year and can be pre-ordered in the U.K., Australia and New Zealand.

U.S. retailers will likely be added at a later date, but fans can pre-order the “Outlander” actors’ writings now if they’re willing to pay for international shipping. Waterstones, a British book retailer, is offering overseas shipping to America for £12.50 in addition to the £20 the book costs ($40.59 USD total). Those who are willing to wait, however, might find a U.S. pre-order option available at a later date.

“Clanlands: Whisky, Warfare, and a Scottish Adventure Like No Other” is apparently a lifelong dream for both men, who have long wanted to write about their homeland, Scotland. Last year, the two went on a journey all over the country to learn more about its history and culture, and they filmed it all for the TV show “Men in Kilts: Roadtrip with Sam and Graham.”

“It’s like a confessional, meets a road trip, meets a death-defying experience,” McTavish tells fans in a video on the “Clanlands” book website.

“We have this great friendship. We met on ‘Outlander,’ of course, and then we decided, for some reason, to go on this road trip together and document it,” Heughan added. “This book has been a really rewarding way of looking back at all the experiences we had and the people we met.”

It seems the book was largely written during the pandemic. Previously, McTavish told Outlander Behind The Scenes that films and TV shows coming to a halt helped them have time to work on the project.

“We’re writing a book together about the whole thing,” he revealed in April. “A much broader book, really, about clans, about Scotland, about ourselves, our friendship. We’ll obviously reference ‘Outlander.’ It’s kind of in-depth thing, really. It’s a sort of lucky consequence of the situation we’re in that both Sam and I, we have a lot of time on our hands. We talk every day.”

“Clanlands” was initially announced last year as a podcast, but it has expanded greatly beyond that with both the TV show and book replacing it.

“Clanlands: Whisky, Warfare, and a Scottish Adventure Like No Other” doesn’t have an exact release date yet nor does the TV series “Men in Kilts: Roadtrip with Sam and Graham.” Both are expected out later this year.
