‘Outlander’ Star Sam Heughan Supports Tartan Mill Fundraiser
“Outlander” star Sam Heughan often lends his support to Scottish causes. Now, the actor is asking fans to help a fundraiser for a textile mill in the Scottish Highlands.
A company called Prickly Thistle, founded by Clare Campbell, wants to bring tartan weaving back to the Highlands, and in order to do so, they need to fund a textile mill. They’ve been working out of a temporary space, but funding the Black House Mill will give the business a permanent home. The campaign has gone through two phases already, and this is their final leg to finish funding.
Heughan reached out to fans on Twitter on Sunday to tell them to back the project. “Please support Clare and this wonderful project! So inspiring, creative and full of Scottish heritage!” he wrote along with a retweet of their latest promo video.
Heughan has supported the project for quite a while. He spread the word about the mill when the first fundraiser launched in 2017.
Prickly Thistle has made it clear that they appreciate Heughan’s help. “We don’t think anyone could argue with the facts, that this Scot is one of the most inspirational leaders of positive global change!” they wrote on Facebook in response to the tweet.
“From his outstanding charity work with My Peak Challenge raising millions for cancer research, his creative talent that’s inspiring the next generation of actors to his constant humbling support of many other aspiring leaders with passion and values of integrity,” the post added. “We salute you Sam Heughan, the rebels will always be behind you!”
“Outlander” author Diana Gabaldon has previously supported the fundraiser as well.
The Prickly Thistle has set their final Kickstarter goal for $150,829 (£120,000), and they have already funded a third of their goal. The fundraiser ends on July 28. The project will only be funded if they meet their full goal.
When he isn’t helping out local Scottish businesses or supporting arts education, Heughan is busy filming “Outlander.” The fifth season of the Starz drama is currently in production in Scotland.
