'Outlander' TV Series 'Most Watched' On Amazon Prime In 2015; Sam Heughan Becomes Sci-Fi Champion
“Outlander” TV series has emerged as the most watched show on Amazon Prime, the company revealed. The show has aired 16 episodes of the two part Season 1 while filming for the second season is currently underway.
In its Summer 2015 report, Amazon stated that the show is the “most watched TV series in 2015” by its Prime customers. The show has set a “binge-watching record” in its opening weekend in April, according to the report.
The TV series is based on the book series with the same name, written by Diana Gabaldon. The next season of the show will be based on the book “Dragonfly in Amber” and Gabaldon may get a chance to write the script of one of the episodes of the next season for the first time.
“Outlander” is one of the most popular TV series, and has a massive fan following. Cast member Sam Heughan (Jamie Fraser) recently won the Sci-Fi TV Champion award by RadioTimes for his performance in “Outlander.”
Heughan beat Peter Capaldi of “The Doctor” in the semi final round and in the final round he beat Eliza Taylor of “The 100.” More than 12 million fans cast their votes in the final round and Heughan won with over 6.3 million votes. The actor also had to take on his fellow cast member Caitriona Balfe (Claire) in the semi-final round.
The fans tried to get both the actors from the show to be in the final, but in the end it was only Heughan, who made it to the final round. The victory has now allowed the actor to compete in the Champion of Champion round at RadioTimes.
Heughan will now be going up against Aidan Turner, who won the Drama Champion award for his role in “Poldark” TV Series. Voting for the Champion of Champions round will end on Aug. 28.
The cast members of “Outlander” are currently busy filming their scenes in Glasgow, Scotland. The plot of the next season will take Jamie and Claire to France, where they will attempt to stop the Battle of Culloden before it begins.
