The popularity of the team-based hero shooter "Overwatch" inspired Blizzard Entertainment to release "Overwatch 2." While the game has yet to launch its beta version, a dataminer has uncovered references that point to some details about the upcoming game sequel, including Battle Pass, Talents and PvE content.
The "Overwatch 2" beta for PC players is scheduled to go live on April 26. While it is still a few days away, Twitter user Helba_The_AI has uncovered interesting details in the game's beta files and shared a screenshot showing the word "Battle Pass."
In context, a Battle Pass is a type of monetization that offers additional content through a tiered system. It rewards players with in-game items for simply playing the game or for completing missions and challenges.
This was not the first time that a reference to Battle Pass was discovered in "Overwatch 2." Earlier this month, a mock-up of the game's main menu was shared by a Blizzard senior UI concept artist, which featured the option to check out a Battle Pass.
Unfortunately, despite the leaks, Blizzard has never said anything about a Battle Pass in the upcoming hero shooter sequel. The same dataminer also shared a screenshot showing a reference to PvE content, suggesting that the limited-time element in the classic "Overwatch" game will return in the sequel.
Moreover, the dataminer shared a screenshot mentioning Talents, which was announced by the game developer during the 2019 BlizzCon. Talents are a gameplay feature in "Overwatch 2" and are special augmentations on the heroes' abilities that players can use in the Story Experience and Hero Missions modes of the game.
According to Blizzard, the talent system in the upcoming sequel is based on a skill tree.
The" Overwatch 2" beta is a pre-release version of the game that the game developer uses to test and collect feedback from players about features and content. The beta will go live next Tuesday but the developers have not yet revealed the specifics.
Based on the usual practice "Overwatch" developers follow in releasing patches and updates for the game, the beta could go live at 2 p.m. ET. Blizzard has not yet said anything as to till when the beta will run.
