'Parasite' Actor Park Seo-Joon To Star In New 'Marvel' Movie
South Korean actor Park Seo-Joon is officially joining the Marvel Cinematic Universe and is in the United States to start filming a new superhero film.
Park's management company, Awesome ENT, confirmed the news, stating that the actor has flown to the U.S. on Sept. 3 to start shooting for his role in the "Captain Marvel" sequel, titled "The Marvels."
Even before Awesome ENT's confirmation on Park's appearance in the film, IMDb already listed Park's name among "The Marvels" cast in July.
"We thank the many people who have shown interest and support for Park Seo-Joon as he takes on this new challenge. We are well aware that many people are curious about the name of the film in which he will be appearing, his character, the filming location, and his filming schedule, but we plan to reveal the details of the movie at a later date," Awesome ENT said in a statement cited by Soompi.
Park is now the third South Korean actor to join the Marvel Cinematic Universe, following the footsteps of Claudia Kim (Kim Soo-Hyun), who appeared in "Avengers: Age of Ultron" in 2015, and Ma Dong-Suk, who starred in this year's "Eternals."
Before leaving for the U.S., the actor finished filming for his role in the upcoming movie "Concrete Utopia," which tells the story of earthquake survivors in an apartment in Seoul. Park plays Min-Seong, a public servant who helps the survivors during the crisis situation.
He has also starred in a string of hit romantic series such as "What's Wrong with Secretary Kim," "Fight for My Way" and "Itaewon Class." He also appeared in the Oscar-winning film "Parasite," which was directed by Bong Joon-Ho.
"The Marvels," which is slated to be released in 2022, will be helmed by Nia de Costa, IMDb said. It will star Brie Larson as "Captain Marvel," Samuel L. Jackson and Teyonah Paris.
The 32-year-old actor marked his 10th year in the entertainment industry in June. Park said at the time that every project was a turning point in his career because it enhanced his growth as an artist.
"When I do interviews, I'm often asked which project was a turning point for me, but every single one was a turning point to me. My thoughts on any given project can be different from objective indicators or the reactions of others. There are often times when projects are divided into successful vs. less successful ones based on numbers. However, every project I’ve appeared in has created an opportunity for me to grow from my past self and experience new things," he said, Soompi reported.
