  • One of the relatives of the couple reported the case to the police
  • They also reported that the couple had no "emotional connection" with the baby
  • The police could not recover the body from the field

A Wisconsin couple who abandoned the body of a 2-month-old baby in a field last year has been sentenced to prison, following a 2-year-long investigation.

Hezile Frison, 37, the father of the deceased baby, identified as Jailsa Adams, was sentenced by the court last week to two-and-a-half years in prison, reported, People. He also needs to serve five years of extended supervision for a separate Milwaukee County case.

Monica Adams, 22, the mother of the deceased baby, was sentenced to four years of probation and nine months in jail in September. The couple had pleaded guilty to charges of hiding the corpse and providing false information about their missing child. Frison also pleaded guilty to bail jumping.

The baby is believed to have died on July 28, 2018, reported Madison.com. The police could not recover her body and the cause of her death is not known. The baby's mother has been in custody since her arrest in August 2019.

The couple, who had recently moved to the area, was staying with their relatives in Kenosha. A relative, who was the primary caregiver of the child, woke up one day to find that the couple had taken away the baby. The couple got confrontational when they were asked about the child.

The couple initially hid their baby’s death from their family. They told them that the baby had gone to stay with Adams' mother. The incident came to light when a concerned relative who suspected their excuses decided to report it to the police in August, reported Kenosha news.

One of the relatives also reported in the criminal complaint that the couple did not "even have any emotional connection" with the child. Although the couple initially hesitated to confess to the investigators, they ultimately admitted that the baby had died in what may have been "a co-sleeping or crib death."

The couple confessed that they carried the baby’s body in a plastic bag and dumped it on the field. They also reported that Frison had visited the field several times after the incident and could see the body. However, the police could only find a plastic bag that was ripped by animals from the scene and could not recover the body.

Relatives said that Adams did not appear to have bonded with the baby and so Frison was attending to the baby's needs. Adams told the investigators that on the day of death, the baby looked fine and was sleeping with Frison. She realized that the baby was not breathing when she got back from the shower. She told the police that Frison had told her that baby must have died of suffocation.

Adams also told the police that she failed to report the death of the child because Frison threatened her. The police also found a series of web searches in Frison’s phone regarding "sudden infant death syndrome, on neonatal death and the types of wild animals found in Kenosha." Frison told the police that he had been trying to protect Adams and he did not want her to go to jail.

Adams' defense attorney argued that she had no previous history and she acted out of fear of her co-defendant.

According to the criminal complaint, Adams "showed little emotion" during her 8-hour long interrogation with the police. The complaint also noted that she did not even enquire if the police ultimately found her baby’s body.

Frison’s family members reported that neither of them had shown remorse and both of them had lied to them repeatedly.
