  • Patient was visiting physiotherapist for treatment for her shoulder injury
  • Therapist made remarks on her body and asked her to flash her breasts
  • Patient lodged a formal complaint following the session

A physiotherapist in the U.K. who asked a female patient to do him a "favor" by lifting her top and expose her breasts during a treatment session was banned from his profession.

Aman Kumar was found guilty during his final hearing on May 14 of "a serious instance of sexual misconduct" and abuse of his profession, according to a statement by Health and Care Professions Tribunal Service, a council in London that deals with legal issues involving healthcare professionals.

Kumar was working for a private company, Ascenti, in the Yorkshire and Lincolnshire region at the time of the incident in 2018. The victim, who was identified only as Patient A, was visiting Kumar for the third time for a therapy session for her back injury resulting from a car crash when Kumar offered to give her a full back massage “because you have been so nice to me,” Telegraph and Argus reported.

As he massaged the patient, he made inappropriate remarks about her buttocks but she ignored them. "However, he then passed comment on my body by saying 'Don’t take this the wrong way but you have a really nice body' and, I am not one to take offence, however I feel this was inappropriate to say the least," the victim said during the hearing, according to the outlet.

"After the massage, I stood up to dress myself to which he said: 'Can you do me a favour?' So I replied, 'Yes' and he then changed his mind and said: 'Okay it doesn’t matter but I will tell you what I was going to ask,' she added. 'So I waited and he hinted at me showing my breasts which obviously is extremely inappropriate. And I am shocked and embarrassed that somebody in a position of trust would even suggest such a thing."

The patient lodged a formal complaint against the physiotherapist following the session. Kumar denied asking her to show him her breasts, saying she has misunderstood him. The hearing found Kumar’s misconduct was triggered by "his own sexual gratification and that it was sexually motivated."
