Police Seek Michigan State Senator After Shotgun Blasts Reported At His Detroit Home
Michigan state Sen. Virgil K. Smith is wanted for questioning by police over shots fired at his northwesterw Detroit home, WXYX-TV reported. Police indicated the shooting appeared to be connected to a domestic dispute.
Smith allegedly fired a shotgun, with pellets striking his girlfriend’s Mercedes Benz, ClickOnDetroit.com said. Nobody was hurt in the shooting.
Police reportedly have been unable to contact the girlfriend, an Ann Arbor businesswoman who is also Smith’s ex-wife, WJBK-TV reported.
Smith, a second-term senator who represents parts of Detroit and Dearborn, has not been arrested. He is reportedly being sought for questioning in the investigation.
Smith was honored as one of the Michigan Chronicle’s Men of Excellence last year. The Chronicle is a weekly newspaper serving the African-American community.
