Pregnant Mother Thrashes 2-Year-Old Child To Death For Playing With Water Inside House
A 22-year-old pregnant woman was arrested Monday for thrashing her 2-year-old daughter to death in India.
The incident took place Saturday inside their house in the western state of Maharashtra. According to local media reports, the accused, identified as Neha Soni, was infuriated when she saw her child playing with water. The woman grabbed the child and slammed her on the floor of the house, causing serious injuries. The girl was immediately rushed to a hospital where doctors declared her dead, The Indian Express reported.
Soni did not inform the hospital that she had beaten up the child, but her neighbors alerted the police.
“When neighbors learnt about the incident, people in their building started talking about it and one of them called us and alerted us about the incident,” an officer from the local police station told newspaper.
An autopsy showed the child died of multiple internal injuries in her head and stomach, Times Now reported. The body was later handed over to the family.
Based on the autopsy report, the police registered a case and charged Soni with murder, officer Suresh Varhade said.
Soni's husband was at work while she was at home with her two daughters — the younger child is one year old — when the incident took place, the police said, adding that an investigation was underway. The victim's sibling was playing in the hall alone when the incident took place.
Last month, an angry man allegedly thrashed his 15-year-old stepdaughter to death for talking on the phone at night. The incident took place in the eastern state of Odisha. He was later admitted to a local hospital in critical condition. According to the police, the man mercilessly beat the girl with a wooden plank. When he realized the girl had died, he rushed inside the house and tried to hang himself. His wife rescued him by snapping the rope with a scythe.
