  • Pedro is signing a deal only after Willian
  • Willian has yet to sign deal with Blues
  • Pedro is monitoring players with expiring deals

Chelsea FC has been making headlines as of late, particularly for a deal involving Timo Werner. However, Frank Lampard still needs to address the situation of players who may be heading out the door.

Willian Borges da Silva and Pedro Rodriguez are two names that have not yet signed fresh leases and there seems to be a connection. Reports are claiming that the Spanish forward will not sign a one-year deal until Willian pens his name on one.

So far, only Willy Caballero and Olivier Giroud have agreed to one-year deals. Willian has yet to be given one although the Brazilian mentioned in a previous post that he would be open to signing a temporary deal. Nothing close to that has happened. Pedro wants to see that happen first before he agrees to a short-term deal, The Sun reported.

Pedro has verbally agreed to stay with the Blues until the end of the season. It is fairly similar to what Willian has in mind. Barring any major moves, the real problem for Lampard and the company will begin after this season is over. And if the recent report claiming that Pedro will not sign before Willian holds up, Lampard may have to work on the Brazilian's case before the Spaniard.

It will be recalled that Willian was seeking a three-year deal to stay at Stamford Bridge. However, the Blues were willing to give the 31-year-old a two-year deal. With both sides unable to reach an agreement, word of Willian possibly moving to a new team made its rounds. Among the teams interested in taking him to include Arsenal FC. But all these were before the COVID-19 outbreak. Willian is aware that the scenarios have changed, likely a reason why he was open to re-signing a short-term deal.

Until the case of Willian is resolved, Pedro will likely keep his options open. According to Goal.com, Pedro is also keeping tabs of the developments in other clubs. One case is that of David Silva of Manchester City. His contract will run out on June 30 and there is no telling what lies ahead for him.

Lampard has been busy and likely to address the Willian and Pedro situation soon. He made it clear before that he intends to resolve the contract situations of current players. It may only be a matter of time before he sits down and talks with Willian. Once that is settled, Pedro is likely to be next.
