“Pretty Little Liars” is coming to an end in late June, but TV series finales don’t mean saying goodbye forever. Hollywood loves a good revival, and executive producers I. Marlene King and Lisa Cochran-Neilan revealed to International Business Times that they anticipate that the series will return one day.

“I hope someday because it’s really hard to say goodbye to these characters,” King told reporters at ATX Television Festival in Austin, Texas. However, “Pretty Little Liars” will be off the air for several years. King wants the cast to experience other projects and grow before they come back.

“I think of ‘Gilmore Girls’ and shows like that where a long time goes by. People do their own thing and they find another passion, and then we find a way to come back together,” King said. “That would be my goal.”

“Gilmore Girls” was off the air for nearly a decade before returning, so it seems like fans will have to wait a while before “PLL” comes back. Still, it seems like there’s a good chance it could happen. Cochran-Neilan added that she also supports the idea of a “Pretty Little Liars” revival, and she thinks a little time away will make their cast really cherish the unique chemistry they have on the mysterious Freeform drama.

“I think especially, our girls, our cast, even the guys, have sort of just started tapping into the fact that ‘Oh my god, that was something that you don’t necessarily have all the time.’ So, if time goes by and there’s an interest in it, I would love to see those girls land together sitting around with a cup of coffee at a coffee shop and having somebody’s cell phone go off,” Cochran-Neilan laughed, “And you know, just take it for another brief ride. I think the girls would fall right into it.”

“Eventually,” King added.

That certainly makes it sound like the Liars will survive the final episode, but the producers were sure not to reveal much about a possible body count for the series finale. “I’m keeping real mum about that,” King said. “I don’t want to mess anything up in this final moment. It’s exciting. It’s very big, I will say.”

At least they know the cast likely would enjoy reuniting. When scheduling TV shoots, scenes are often filmed out of order. Certain actors typically finish before others. However, the “Pretty Little Liars” girls specifically asked if they could wrap the series together.

“When we scheduled the finale, I want everyone to understand that it was so important that the last shot of the last day of the finale, the girls asked if it could be a scene where they were all in it,” King revealed. “And to me, it spoke volumes about the show in the end. Seven years later, the last shot was all the girls together. … It was amazing.”

With a potential revival likely many years away, “Pretty Little Liars” fans will have to cherish these last few episodes. The drama airs Tuesdays at 8 p.m. EDT on Freeform.
