Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles are celebrating an important milestone in their relationship today.

On Feb. 10, 2005, the royal couple announced their engagement to the world. Prince Charles released a statement confirming his plans to wed Camilla and it also included comments from his two sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

“We are both very happy for our father and Camilla, and we wish them all the luck in the future,” the siblings said.

Queen Elizabeth also gave the Duke and Duchess of Cornwall her warmest wishes and said that she and Prince Philip are very happy that the couple will soon tie the knot.

On the evening of Feb. 10, 2005, Prince Charles and Camilla also stepped out for the first time as an engaged couple at the Windsor Castle. At the time, Camilla proudly showed off her diamond and platinum engagement ring to the press.

It was also confirmed that Camilla will take the title Her Royal Highness, the Duchess of Cornwall after she marries the future King. And less than two months later, Prince Charles and Camilla tied the knot in a civil ceremony at Windsor Castle.

Before deciding to settle down, Prince Charles and Camilla’s relationship did not come without criticisms. In fact, they had a very tumultuous relationship because Prince Charles had an affair with the mom of two while he was still married to Princess Diana.

During a previous interview, Prince Charles admitted that he was unfaithful to his then wife, the Princess of Wales. Princess Diana also sat down for an interview on “Panorama” in 1995 and confirmed that there were three of them in her marriage.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana announced their separation in 1992, but it was only in 1996 that their divorce was finalized. Her Majesty reportedly stepped in and encouraged the couple to go their separate ways for good after Princess Diana’s controversial interview.
