Prince Charles Made ‘Giant Snub’ To Camilla Parker Bowles In Public Statement
Prince Charles snubbed Camilla Parker Bowles on his divorce terms with Princess Diana.
The Prince and Princess of Wales had a fairytale wedding, but their marriage ended in divorce in 1996. To make matters worse, they were involved in an acrimonious legal battle before their split was officially legalized.
Both Princess Diana and Prince Charles made a media statement regarding their historic split. However, the future king’s divorce terms included a statement that was considered a “giant snub” to the Duchess of Cornwall.
“On (Private Secretary) Richard Aylard’s advice, St James’s Palace issued a statement saying that the Prince of Wales had ‘no intention of remarrying,’” Penny Junor wrote in her 2017 biography “The Duchess: The Untold Story.”
“It was a gesture to bridge the divide between the two Palaces, a peace offering to the Queen, to the public and to the Anglican church,” she continued. “But from Camilla’s point of view it was a giant snub.”
Junor added the said statement made Camilla feel as though she was “publicly consigned to the box labelled ‘mistress.’” However, Prince Charles didn’t realize the statement because, in 2005, she married Camilla at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor.
Following their marriage, Camilla joined Prince Charles’ family and became a stepmom to Prince William and Prince Harry. Junor revealed that at the beginning Camilla didn’t have a good relationship with her royal stepsons. The Duke of Cambridge and Duke of Sussex had a “very difficult” transition after Prince Charles introduced Camilla to them as his new partner.
Also, Camilla never tried to be a mom to Prince William and Prince Harry. Penny felt that it was understandable because the princes want their mom and Camilla has her own family.
Some netizens felt that Prince Harry and Prince William don’t really like Camilla but they have no choice. Meghan Markle’s husband and Kate Middleton’s spouse were forced to accept their situation. However, this is very different from what Prince Harry said in a previous interview.
The Duke of Sussex defended Camilla by saying that she was not a “wicked” stepmom. He added that he and Prince William love Camilla to bits. So, people should stop being sorry for them and instead be sorry for how they treat Camilla.
