Prince Charles and Princess Diana have already been divorced for an entire year when the latter died in a fatal car crash in Paris.

After learning about his ex-wife’s death, the heir to the throne traveled to Paris to pick up the Princess of Wales’ body. On the online forum site Quora, royal fans are wondering why Prince Charles did what he did considering he and Princess Diana were no longer together.

Eileen Wood, a Republican since 1977, said that Prince Charles decided to pick up his ex-wife’s body because he was also devastated by Princess Diana’s sudden death.

“After their divorce, he and Diana had developed an agreeable relationship, for their children’s sake. Don’t forget – he had known her for years before marrying her… He dated her sister, and I understand that the Spencer family children were playmates for the younger royals,” she said.

Wood also said that Prince Charles must have felt the need to pick up his ex-wife’s body because Princess Diana is still the mother of his sons, Prince William and Prince Harry.

Additionally, the future king wanted to make sure that no one would be able to take a photo of Princess Diana’s corpse so he decided to go to Paris with his security team.

Royal Susanna Humphreys also gave a similar answer. She said that Prince Charles picked up Princess Diana’s body because he wanted to.

“He was grief-stricken and appalled. He wanted to see for himself that she was indeed dead… The pictures of him at the time show a man who was full of grief for someone he had loved and who was the mother of his children,” she said.

But there are also some royal fans who claimed that Prince Charles did what he did because he didn’t want the public to look at him negatively. Other also said that the dad of two must have felt guilty for what he did to Princess Diana during their marriage.
