Prince Charles reportedly banned Princess Diana from joining a major royal event.

In 1987, the royal family was invited to join the TV show “It’s a Royal Knockout,” which Sarah Ferguson, Princess Anne, Prince Edward and Prince Andrew all made appearances in. However, the late Princess of Wales, who wanted to participate, reportedly wasn’t allowed to by her husband, Prince Charles.

Singer Torah Wilcox, who helped organize the show, revealed that Prince Charles didn’t allow Princess Diana to take part in the show. “Princess Diana wanted to do it,” Wilcox said.

“Edward wanted her to do it but Prince Charles banned Diana from doing it,” she added.

However, according to reports, Prince Charles' strong protest against his wife’s involvement might have originally come from the Queen. Ben Pimlott revealed in his 1996 biography about Queen Elizabeth II that her Majesty deeply disapproved of the event.

According to him, joining the event was a “terrible mistake” because the monarch was “against it.” “There was not a single courtier who did not think it was a mistake,” he wrote.

Prince Charles decision for not allowing Princess Diana on the show proved to be a good thing. The show was seen universally as a public-relations disaster. It was even featured on Channel 5's “Now That's Embarrassing: The 80s” that featured the most embarrassing or cheesy aspects from the 1980s culture.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana had a rocky marriage when they were still together. However, the couple put a united front for their sons Prince William and Prince Harry.

A number blamed the Prince of Wales for their failed marriage because they believed that he was emotionally committed to another woman, Camilla Parker-Bowles. At one point, Princess Diana even suspected the future king of plotting an automobile accident to kill her so he could marry Camilla.

When the Princess of Wales got into a fatal car crash, Prince Charles was devastated because he knew that he would be blamed. However, he still insisted to get Princess Diana’s body.

The Prince of Wales and Queen Elizabeth II had an argument over Princess Diana’s body because the monarch believed that Prince Charles had no right to do it as he was only her ex-husband. However, Prince Charles didn’t listen and “fought harder” for Princess Diana, so the Queen eventually agreed.
