Prince Charles previously made a shocking and uncomfortable remark about wives in India.

In the book “The Royals,” author Kitty Kelley talked about the time that Prince Charles went on a trip to Taj Mahal by himself. Reporters asked the future king what he thought about the great monument to passion built by a Mogul emperor in memory of his wife.

Prince Charles said that it was a marvelous idea to have something built for someone he loved very much. The reporter then asked Prince Charles about his own projects for his wife, and the dad of two gave him a shocking response.

“I’m encouraged by the fact that if I were to become a Muslim, I could have lots of wives,” he said.

Kitty revealed how the British reporters glanced at each other uncomfortably as they wondered if Prince Charles was joking. According to the author, the British press simply ignored Prince Charles’ statement and thought that it was a huge success.

Years ago, Prince Charles and Princess Diana went to Taj Mahal for an official visit. However, a photographer released photos of Princess Diana sitting outside the monument by herself. Royal photographer Arthur Edwards said that he didn’t think Prince Charles intentionally snubbed his wife at that time.

Prince Charles and Princess Diana tied the knot in 1981, but their marriage didn’t last very long. The couple announced their separation in 1992, and their divorce was finalized in 1996. But before going their separate ways, Prince Charles reportedly did a sweet gesture to Princess Diana while they were at the altar.

In the Netflix documentary “The Queen’s Diamond Decades,” the narrator said that Prince Charles told Princess Diana that she looked beautiful on their special day.

Despite the positive comment from Prince Charles, Princess Diana’s former royal butler, Paul Burrell, said in the documentary “The Diana Story” that she turned her head from side to side to see if Camilla was there at the venue. Princess Diana knew that Prince Charles’ heart was with Camilla even before they tied the knot.
