Prince Harry and Boris Johnson's encounter sparked debate on Twitter.
The Duke of Sussex was caught on camera with the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom. According to some, Meghan Markle’s husband ignored Johnson, but others don’t agree.
“The way Prince Harry completely ignored Borris has me dying #CommonwealthDay,” @Flu0rescxnt wrote on Twitter.
On the clip, Prince Harry is talking to a gentleman standing right beside Johnson. However, he didn’t stop to talk with the prime minister, he just nods at him and approaches the lady standing on Johnson’s left.
“It’s quite funny to compare the difference of time he spends with the Baroness Scotland compared to borris even in th full video only nods are exchanged between him and borris,” the user added in another post.
However, not everyone has the same observations. A different netizen shared another clip where Prince Harry clearly acknowledges Johnson. He even stopped to have a short conversation with the prime minister.
“And here’s a video of Prince Harry NOT ignoring Boris Johnson,” @cove_billy wrote.
Meanwhile, body language expert Judi James pointed out that it was difficult to say who the duke was talking to as they didn’t shake hands. Physical contacts are discouraged to avoid spreading COVID-19.
“I think this is a case of clip-cutting giving a misleading reading, plus the Corona virus might also be partially to blame as there were no handshakes to help us pin down exactly who Harry was talking to at which point,” James told Mirror.
Based on the video, Prince Harry chats on the person before Johnson, but he nods to the prime minister before moving to the lady next to him. While James isn’t convinced Prince Harry ignored Johnson, she said it wasn’t the duke’s most animated and engaging chat of the day.
“It’s at the end of this when Harry moves on but claims he ‘cut’ the PM look rather exaggerated. It wasn’t one of Harry’s most animated, engaging chats of the day but it doesn’t look as though he made a huge statement of ignoring the PM either.
