  • It's the decisions we make now that will prove our humanity: Royal couple
  • Their joint statement was followed by a message from The Archewell Team
  • The Archewell Team is committed to supporting Afghan troops and efforts in Haiti

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle spoke out on Afghanistan and Haiti's current situations. In a joint statement released by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex Tuesday, the couple addressed the Taliban holding sway over Afghanistan and the recent devastating earthquake that had left almost 2,000 people dead in Haiti.

“The world is exceptionally fragile right now,” their joint statement read. “As we all feel the many layers of pain due to the situation in Afghanistan, we are left speechless. As we all watch the growing humanitarian disaster in Haiti, and the threat of it worsening after last weekend’s earthquake, we are left heartbroken. And as we all witness the continuing global health crisis, exacerbated by new variants and constant misinformation, we are left scared.”

“When any person or community suffers, a piece of each of us does so with them, whether we realize it or not. And though we are not meant to live in a state of suffering, we, as a people, are being conditioned to accept it. It’s easy to find ourselves feeling powerless, but we can put our values into action—together,” they continued.

Prince Harry and Meghan urged their followers to support organizations that need help during these times and encouraged leaders around the world to “rapidly advance the humanitarian dialogues.”

“As an international community, it is the decisions we make now—to alleviate suffering among those we know and those we may never meet—that will prove our humanity,” the statement concluded.

Signed by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, the statement was followed by a note signed from “The Archewell Team,” sharing the organization’s commitment to help troops in Afghanistan and work with the World Central Kitchen with its emergency efforts in Haiti.

In the said note, The Archewell Team stressed its commitment to fight the spread of misinformation and work to support vaccine equity. The organization also provided links to resources where people can learn about how to help those affected by the recent global emergencies.

“Take care of yourselves, and let’s keep taking care of each other,” noted The Archewell Team.
