Prince Harry, Meghan Markle’s Wedding Much More Expensive Than Prince William, Kate’s
Prince Harry won’t be Britain’s future king, but it has just been revealed that his wedding was much more expensive than Prince William’s.
Paul Offord, a journalist for Express, noted that Prince William and Meghan Markle’s nuptials cost over $41.6 million. Parts of the cost were covered by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media, and Sport. They were the ones that paid for the flags, banners, big screens, control barriers, and rubbish disposal on the May 19 occasion.
Other parts of Prince Harry and Markle’s wedding cost were allotted for the security around Windsor before and on the day of their nuptials. Over $303,000 was spent on PA system which relayed the events from inside St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle to the wider public.
More than $1.4 million was paid to the Windsor and Maidenhead council for “stewarding crowd control barriers, big screens, waste disposal, barriers, and costs. Private contractors were given over $167,000 for their services.
Other costs were allotted to the staff, travel expenses, accreditation passes, and more. Majority of the costs were spent on security. The $41.6 million amount also included the cost of Markle’s Clare Waight Keller dress, which is reportedly more expensive than Kate Middleton’s Alexander McQueen gown.
In total, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex’s wedding cost $8 million more than Prince William and Middleton’s nuptials in 2011. The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge tied the knot at Westminster Abbey.
It seems that a royal’s succession to the throne doesn’t have anything to do with the cost of his wedding. This may also be the case with Prince Harry’s cousin, Princess Eugenie, who will tie the knot on Oct. 12.
Princess Eugenie’s nuptials is being rumored to be bigger than Prince Harry, at least in terms of the number of guests. Prince Andrew and Sarah Ferguson’s daughter will also have three receptions. Prince Harry and Markle only had two.
