Prince Harry reportedly stopped his wife Meghan Markle from reaching out to the media.

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex visited South Africa last month. Their tour was deemed to be a huge success even before it ended, but things changed when the couple announced that they had filed a lawsuit against Mail on Sunday for publishing Markle’s personal letter to her dad, Thomas Markle Sr.

During their South Africa tour, the royal couple was joined by several media personalities. However, royal experts felt that Prince William’s brother was not happy with the press and was “not enjoying himself.” Daily Express royal correspondent Richard Palmer, who was with Prince William and Kate Middleton on their Pakistan royal tour, asked if it was true that Prince Harry did not give in to Markle’s request to host a press drinks event.

“Yes, that’s my understanding,” Daily Mirror royal editor Russell Myers answered.

Palmer shared his thoughts about Prince Harry and Markle distancing themselves from the press. He believes that the couple should work with the media because the public are expecting to hear about them from the press and not from social media platforms.

“I think it’s important to say, it’s not about us as journalists, really. The fact is, senior people at the Palace still think that the majority of people are going to get their news about the Royal Family from the mainstream media for many, many years to come. Not all from Instagram,” Palmer explained.

“It isn’t going to connect them to the people who are paying for them. That’s why I think it is important for them to still engage with the media.”

Days after Prince Harry and Markle announced that they filed a lawsuit against Mail on Sunday, the duke also sued The Sun and The Mirror for alleged phone hacking. Many felt that the couple was starting an all-out war against the press.

Many felt that Prince Harry was only trying to protect his wife from the press because his mom died after the paparazzi chased her. He was also convinced that Markle, just like Princess Diana, is a victim of the press.

However, the late Princess of Wales’ protection officer said that the duke made a “monumental misjudgment” for the comparison. Ken Wharfe explained that Princess Diana was never a victim. In fact, it was her who manipulated the media to her advantage.
