  • Royal expert Katie Nicholl said Prince William and Prince Harry talked over the phone during the Christmas and New Year holiday
  • She said "things are a lot better" now between the brothers
  • Prince William and Prince Harry were reportedly barely on speaking terms a year ago, the royal expert said

Prince William and Prince Harry are enjoying a better relationship one year after the latter announced his decision to step down as a senior working royal.

Royal expert Katie Nicholl has revealed that Princess Diana and Prince Charles' sons are on speaking terms even if they are miles apart and reconnected over the holidays.

"There were phone and video calls over the Christmas and New Year holiday and the Sussexes sent presents to the Cambridges and vice versa," Nicholl told Entertainment Tonight. "It was an opportunity in an otherwise very busy and chaotic year for both of the families to come together and connect, albeit virtually.”

Prince Harry and Prince William's "fallout was very real, very ugly and incredibly intense," a source told Us Weekly, adding, "They'd reached an impasse, there was so much mud under the bridge and a lot of people felt their feud was beyond repair."

Nicholl confirmed that there was a time when the Duke of Cambridge was angry with his younger brother, and that was during a meeting they had about the Sussexes’ royal exit. Kate Middleton's husband was allegedly so upset with Prince Harry's decision that he couldn't face Queen Elizabeth II for lunch and only attended the meeting.

But Nicholl said royal fans shouldn't be too bothered by it because the brothers appeared to have mended their rift and their relationship has become better.

"Things are a lot better between William and Harry. If you go back a year at that stage, these brothers were barely on talking terms," the "Harry and Meghan" author explained.

"Fast forward to today, the relationship is much better than it was," she continued. "For a start, they are on talking terms, and not only on talking terms, they do speak relatively regularly. They were very much in touch over the holidays. But there is an ocean between them, there is a time difference and as Harry [has] said… they are two brothers on different paths."

Prince Harry and Prince William are expected to reunite at the unveiling of Princess Diana's statue at Kensington Palace on the 20th anniversary of her death in July.

Meanwhile, another royal expert, Phil Dampier, recently suggested that the alleged rift between Prince William and Prince Harry may worsen if the Duke of Cambridge thinks his brother is exploiting their mom's status. This came after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle paid tribute to their respective mothers on the website for their Archewell ventures and nonprofit organization.

"I think William will be slightly worried if Harry uses Diana for any of his charitable or commercial ventures without consulting him, and I don't think he would be happy if Harry appears to be exploiting his mother's iconic status," the royal expert told Daily Mail.
