Princess Anne Criticized Prince Charles Over Adulterous Behavior; Brother Fires Back

Princess Anne once criticized Prince Charles over his adulterous behavior, but the future king fired back at his younger sister.

In Tom Bower’s book “Rebel Prince: The Power, Passion, and Defiance of Prince Charles,” the author revealed that Princess Anne lashed out at Prince Charles for cheating on Princess Diana and having an affair with Camilla Parker Bowles. But Prince Charles quickly pointed out that Princess Anne was one to talk.

According to Bower, Princess Anne enjoyed an intimate friendship with Andrew Parker Bowles, the man Camilla eventually married. But prior to their wedding, Camilla also had a relationship with Prince Charles. This was cut short after Prince Charles moved away to fulfill his duties.

Royal biographer Penny Junor said during a talk at the Henley Literary Festival in 2017 that Prince Charles and Camilla’s affair was also an act of revenge on Parker Bowles because the latter was sleeping with Princess Anne.

“It was Princess Anne, not Camilla, who inadvertently caused the breakdown of Diana and Charles’ marriage. Anne was having an affair with Andrew Parker Bowles in the early 70s,” she said.

In 1973, Princess Anne wed Mark Phillips. In this same year, Camilla wed Parker Bowles. However, both marriages didn’t last. In 1992, Princess Anne wed Vice Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence at a Presbyterian church close to Balmoral Castle. Camilla, on the other hand, wed Prince Charles in a civil ceremony in 2005.

According to Laurence, he and his wife faced a lot of scrutiny in the early weeks of and months of their marriage, but they stayed true to who they are.

Princess Anne and Laurence are still together at the moment, but they have not been blessed with children. Princess Anne’s two children are from her marriage with her ex-husband, Phillips. Prince Charles and Camilla are still together as well, but they also don’t have their own children.

Prince Charles has two sons from his previous marriage to Princess Diana, and Camilla has a son and a daughter from her marriage to Parker Bowles.
