Princess Diana Wore Wigs, Disguises During Secret Charity Visits, Friend Claims
Princess Diana didn’t want her charity visits to make headlines so she used to wear disguises during her private trips.
In the Amazon Prime documentary “Princess Diana: The Woman Inside,” Princess Diana’s friend Simone Simmons revealed how the late Princess of Wales disguised herself during her charity shop trips.
“In spite of the media putting her in the spotlight, she put on her wig, wore what she wanted, came for walks on Hampstead Heath, went to the charity shop with me in Camden High Street,” she said.
Simmons also said that there was a time wherein Princess Diana fooled her by wearing one of her disguises. At that time, a woman opened the door for her and walked up the stairs to Princess Diana’s small lounge. Prince William and Prince Harry were also there.
The woman wearing a disguise told Simmons that Princess Diana would see her already, but it was actually the Princess of Wales herself. Her sons couldn’t stop laughing, especially after Princess Diana asked her friend if she was able to trick her into thinking she was someone else.
Princess Diana’s friend, Richard Kay, also recounted a similar incident wherein the mom of two fooled a royal fan. While they were walking on the Heath, someone came up to him and asked if the woman he was with was Princess Diana. Prince Charles’ ex-wife said that she was Princess Diana’s twin sister.
The royal fan didn’t realize that Princess Diana doesn’t have a twin sister and just walked away.
Ken Wharfe, Princess Diana’s former security guard, also recounted their trips out on the London tube. When the Princess of Wales would ride the tube and royal fans would see her, they would feel confused because they never thought that Princess Diana would take the public transportation.
“You didn’t forget Diana if you saw her,” Kay said.
In related news, Princess Diana also made headlines this week after it was revealed that she and Prince Philip had a very complicated relationship with each other. The Duke of Edinburgh felt angry after he learned that Princess Diana and Prince Charles wanted to go their separate ways.
