Princess Diana’s Ex-Bodyguard Says ‘Royal Family Is At Risk’ For This Reason
Princess Diana’s ex-bodyguard, Ken Wharfe, recently said that the royal family is at risk due to its attempts at cutting costs and reforming departments.
While speaking with Yahoo (via Express), he said, “The structure of protection has changed. Money has changed that. Protection is not a cheap industry. But what price do you put it on protection?”
Wharfe also said that the efficiency of security has changed due to the restricting of the various departments. This, in turn, has resulted in a lack of interpersonal relationship between the protector and the ones being protected.
“The success of protection depends on the efficiency of the team, and from my experience, the relationship that you have with the person you’re protecting. It isn’t like that anymore. I’m not suggesting it’s dangerous but I don’t think there is that interpersonal relationship that was there before. From what I can see, I don’t think there is that chemistry and personal relationship that there should be,” he added.
In related news, Wharfe has also talked about his former boss, as well as Princess Diana’s two children, Prince William and Prince Harry. He said that the siblings shouldn’t blame the paparazzi for the death of their mom on Aug. 31, 1997.
“From my experience of working with Diana for nine years, every foreign holiday went on, it wasn’t the odd paparazzi that would turn up. We’re talking 60 to 70 journalists. It’s in their interest to keep Diana alive and any other member of the royal family. It’s their bread and butter,” he said.
Last year, Prince Harry indirectly said that he thinks it was the paparazzi chasing his mom’s car that caused her death.
“I think one of the hardest things to come to terms with is the fact that the people that chased her into the tunnel were the same people that were taking photographs of her while she was still dying on the back seat of the car. She had quite a severe injury but she was very much still alive on the back seat,” he said.
