Priyanka Chopra Thinks Meghan Markle Is More Than Just Prince Harry’s Girlfriend

While some people just can’t seem to get enough of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s love story, the “Suits” star’s friend, Priyanka Chopra, thinks people should be more focused on her pal’s accomplishments rather than the man she is dating.

The “Quantico” star told Entertainment Tonight that she was not pleased with Markle’s Vanity Fair interview which focused on her romance rather than her work. “I don’t [know] if I will get into trouble for this, but I have an opinion. I mean, she’s on the cover of Vanity Fair. It would have been nice to write about her not just her boyfriend. I’m just saying,” the ABC star said.

“I mean, she’s an actor, she’s an activist, she’s a philanthropist. I mean, she does so much more,” the actress added.

Chopra insisted that Markle was more than just Prince Harry’s girlfriend. “It’s just a little sexist. Look, I’m a feminist and I love boys, okay… The only thing I’m saying is that there needs to be a certain sense of equality where a woman is not just a plus one, you know. It’s nice to be your own identity to.”

Although Chopra is clearly displeased with the focus of the article, Prince Harry and Markle were actually satisfied with the piece. “Both Meghan and Harry are really happy with how the Vanity Fair feature turned out,” a source close to the actress told E! News.

“The photos are gorgeous and [photographer Peter] Lindbergh’s office sent copies of the set to Meghan as a gift. She’s thrilled,” the insider added.

Even though Chopra took issue with the questions Markle was asked about her love life, the star seemed very open when speaking about the status of her relationship with the British royal and shed some light on their history together. “We’re two people who are really happy and in love,” Markle told the publication.

The USA star revealed that she and her boyfriend attempted to keep their romance, which started in July 2016, a secret for as long as they could. “We were very quietly dating for about six months before it became news, and I was working during that whole time, and the only thing that changed was people’s perception. Nothing about me changed. I’m still the same person that I am, and I’ve never defined myself by my relationship,” she explained.

Going forward, Markle hinted that she sees a long future with the Prince of Wales. “We’re a couple. We’re in love. I’m sure there will be a time when we will have to come forward and present ourselves and have stories to tell, but I hope what people will understand is that this is our time,” she said.

“This is for us. It’s part of what makes it so special, that it’s just ours. But we’re happy. Personally, I love a great love story,” she added.

According to sources close to the couple, Markle’s love story is expected to get even more romantic as many close friends believe the two will become engaged soon. Although neither has addressed engagement rumors, the actress’ Vanity Fair interview gushing over her boyfriend seemed to confirm that the two are very serious about their romance.
