Queen Elizabeth Said She, Prince Philip ‘Belonged To Each Other,’ Duke An ‘Angel’
Queen Elizabeth said the sweetest things about Prince Philip before they tied the knot.
In the letter she wrote to her parents, Her Majesty thanked King George VI and the Queen Mother for raising her and Princess Margaret in a loving and healthy environment. More specifically, the monarch thanked her parents for raising her and her younger sister with fairness.
“I only hope that I can bring up my children in the happy atmosphere of love and fairness which Margaret and I have grown up in,” she wrote.
Prince Philip asked for the Queen’s hand in marriage multiple times, but she rejected him until such time that she felt she was also ready to tie the knot. In her letter, Her Majesty told her parents that she and Prince Philip behave as though they belonged to each other for years.
“Philip is an angel—he is so kind and thoughtful,” she wrote.
Meanwhile, the Duke of Edinburgh also wrote to his future mother-in-law decades ago. The dad of four said that the words “cherish Lilibet” are not enough to express the feelings he has inside of him.
In the article she wrote for Vanity Fair, royal author Sally Bedell Smith said that Prince Philip also said other touching things about the Queen.
“He declared that his new wife was ‘the only ‘thing’ in this world which is absolutely real to me and my ambition is to weld the two of us into a new combined existence that will not only be able to withstand the shocks directed at us but will also have a positive existence for the good,’” she said.
Prince Philip and Queen Elizabeth tied the knot on Nov. 20, 1947. In fact, they recently celebrated their 72nd wedding anniversary last month. But there are ongoing fears for the Duke’s health since he is now 98 years old.
A source told The Sun that Prince Charles’ father took a bit of a wobble weeks ago while staying in Sandringham.
